Code Name Castillon – 19th Century Esoteric Diary
A scholar in Britian has aquired a 19th century diary of a gentleman involved with either the Rosicrucian Revival or the Golden Dawn`s Ahathoor Temple in Paris. Much of what is written is about day to day activities and the interesting parts are in code. It is written in French and presumably the code is in French as well. If he is writing about the ceremonials of a secret society, it is to be expected that he would keep them to himself. After all, the Freemasons took vows of secrecy that were enforced with the penalty of death.
There is one entry about a soiree at the house of a certain Comtesse Ernestine Vigy Le Breanne in Paris during the course of which a woman who appeared to be of Middle Eastern origin was introduced as “Semiramis” performed a rite said to be of Ancient Babylonian origin. Her companion, Tamara Arkadovna Pregashvili was said to be a Russian Georgian Princess. Pregashvili said that Semiramis was an avatar of the Great mother Goddess Cybele.
Semiramis was clad in the sort of costume that was worn by Mata Hari – gilded and jeweled with Turkish harem pants, jeweled slippers and gauzy veils. When the author gets to the performance of the rite, the writing switches to the code which has not yet been deciphered.
This account is reminiscent of a document recording the admission of an Englishman to the Society of the Rosy Cross by the Comte de Chazal on the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean east of Madagascar. There are references to various women having been initiated into the order, including Semiramis – Queen of Egypt (Semiramis was Queen of Assyria), Miriam the prophetess, Peronella, the wife of Nicholas Flamel, and Leona Constantia – Abbess of Clermont.
Mauritius was an island belonging to France at the time of this initiation. It was a haven for corsairs and pirates and is known for its production of sugar. Huge water lilies grow on the island`s lakes, their leaves are like tea-trays - two feet wide. By 1710 the Dodo bird was extinct there from being over- hunted, it was a perfect place for an esoteric initiation of artistic women.
The difference between these two similar events is in their dates. The Mauritius description is from 12 September 1794. The gathering in the diary took place on 10 October 1900. It turns out that Nicholas Flamel was born in 1345 so there is a discrepancy there as well since his wife was said to have been present. The author of the journal calls himself Saenz de Castillon, but there are no references in the records of the era to that name. If that name sounds familiar to anyone or if there is someone out there who is familiar with Rosicrucian French codes, the British owner of the old diary would appreciate any input.
